The Indigenous Niitsitapi or Blackfoot People regard ammolites as having healing qualities in their tradition. Ammolites are mainly found within the Bearpaw Formation that includes Montana and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. It was once a prehistoric shallow warm sea that teemed with marine life like ammonites that became ammolites with opalized areas. Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's Corn-Maiden is carved from a stunning ammolite with subtle red-orange opalized areas. Iridescent mother-of-pearl is etched and filled with jet paste for lovely facial features. The natural indentation is filled with crushed turquoise to represent life-sustaining water. About 1 7/8" long, 5/8" wide and 2" tall.
