Vickie Quandelacy went all out with an intricate reversible carving celebrating feminine strength. Sculpted from a lovely iridescent gold lip mother-of-pearl shell, both Corn-Maiden and Grandmother's shawl is bordered with steps of incised feathers. Corn Maiden's etched Corn body is accented with an overlaid necklace from carved pen shell and turquoise. Grandmother's traditional clothing includes an overlaid bib from pen shell with red coral. Peaceful facial features are etched and filled with jet paste. Permanently presented on a base from sandstone with crushed turquoise to represent life-giving water, dimensions in their entirety are approximately 4 1/8" tall, 3 1/4" wide and roughly 1 1/4" deep.
