Bernard Laiwakete comes from a great line of Zuni carvers: the Mahooty, Lasiloo and Laiwakete families. His son is carver Kenric Laiwakete and several of his brothers carve as well. Bernard's mighty sweet Bear is sculpted from chrysocolla to a size of roughly 4 3/4" long, 3/4" wide and 3" tall. Closely set eyes are from turquoise inlays. Given in gratitude for a bear's powerful qualities, an offering bundle is laced with amazing black pearl, orange spiny oyster shell and green turquoise beads.
