Bison provide physical and spiritual nourishment for Indigenous Peoples because they give generously and their sacred presence summons snowfall and brings prosperity to all. Bison are vital land stewards too because they are designed to keep moving, not overdoing their stay in one area. Natural behaviors like grazing patterns create nesting areas for birds. Their hooves aerate the soil for all kinds of seeds to grow. As they wallow and roll around, depressions are created that fill with rain, serving as pools and drinking water for other wildlife like amphibians, insects and mammals. Benina Kallestewa's mighty Bison has been sculpted from local Zuni fluorite and inlaid with twinkling eyes from cultured opals. About 2 1/2" long, 1" wide and 1 3/8" tall.
