Masterful Melon Shell Parrot

By Ricky Laahty

Animal: Parrot, Material: Melon Shell
This offering is sold.
An admirable parrot is masterfully carved from a gorgeous melon shell by Ricky Laahty, with outstanding plumage details. Melon Diadema are sometimes referred to as Bailer shells because seafarers of old used them to bail water from their vessels. They're also called Ethiopian Volutes. These cantaloupe-hued shells are found on sea floors across the warm Indian and Pacific Oceans, off the coast of southeast Asia. A hidden bird friend is found on the underside of this fetish. The animal's eyes are wonderful, set with perhaps shell in Ricky's trade secret way. Dimensions of this collectible piece are about 3 3/4" tall, 1 7/8" wide and 1" deep. Not suitable for an unstable shelf or surface.
