Master carver Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez was only nine-years-old when she was taught to shape stones using only hand tools by her aunt, renowned Zuni artist Faye Quandelacy. Lucky for us the last 12 years or so have been dedicated to carving full-time with Kateri garnering prestigious awards at SWAIA's Santa Fe Indian Market and The Heard Show in Arizona, among others.
Sculpted from a nicely-weighty peacock ore pyrite, a gold lip shell-faced Corn-Maiden offers prayers. She's embellished with an alunite inlay. We love the captivating royal blue, abundant teal green and purple metallic hues natural to the rich mineral. About 1 7/8" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 7/8" deep.
