In January of this year, a 1,400-year-old stunning Zapotec tomb in Oaxaca has excited the archeological world as a well-preserved and enormous sculpture of a wide-eyed Owl with a painted Zapotec lord in its beak was found. The Zapotecs are known as the Cloud People and their descendant still speak Indigenous Zapotec. In ancient Zapotec culture, the owl represents power and the passing of life. Cody Chavez's picture jasper raptor with sky blue turquoise eyes holds all the power and respect that the A:Shiwi (Zuni) have for the Night Grandfather. About 2 1/8" tall, 3/8" wide and 1 1/2" deep. Etched facial disc feathers and wings are lovely.
