Gorgeous opals are the national gemstone of Peru. Peruvian pink opals are found in desert locales of the Andes Mountains that formed in fissures of rock often rich in silica. Pink opals are revered as a gift from the Incan goddess Pachamama by Indigenous Andean cultures. Dee Edaakie's wonderful upright Bear has been carved from a soothing Peruvian pink opal specimen to a size of approximately 2 1/8" tall, 7/8" wide and 1" deep. A spirit of curiosity is conveyed through sodalite or perhaps lapis lazuli inlaid eyes. A tiny offering necklace representative of gratitude from the carver for the bear's powerful traits consists of lovely baby olive heishe, sterling silver, turquoise and natural branch red coral beads.
