Zuni artist Hayes Leekya shared this: "As I was growing up in a very big family with seven sisters, and three brothers, I was always curious to what my father (Francis Leekya, Sr.) was doing. I always sat with my father while he worked on his carvings. I watched him make every turn, every detail, and finally, a finished piece of art." We love Hayes' latest offering, a surefooted donkey who is an intelligent and cautious creature only proceeding when it feels it's safe to do so. Donkeys form true bonds with humans and other pasture pals. Carved from local Zuni travertine, Hayes Leekya's wonderful pen shell-eyed equine friend is about 3 1/8" long, 1 1/4" wide and 2 3/8" tall. It has adorable turquoise hooves.
