Ancient rock art called petroglyphs were created by prehistoric Indigenous Peoples and are found throughout New Mexico's varied landscapes. They are also abundant in the Southwest occupying rock faces with many sacred symbols. Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque, New Mexico is one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America. Ulysses Mahkee's fabulous Picasso marble ram or Bighorn sheep has great etched horns and turquoise inlaid eyes. Either side of this approximately 2 1/4" long, 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall ruminant is sgraffito-etched with wonderful petroglyph-inspired motifs such as a Zuni Sunface, Deer or antelope, a flute-playing Kokopelli, a paw print, a spiral, a hand and raindrop elements.
