Ray Tsalate learned the art of fetish carving from his partner Troy Sice in 2004. Ray has won numerous awards and ribbons, including a 2009 fellowship with the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian. His latest offering is this tiny antler maiden, standing at a wee 1" tall, 3/4" wide and 5/8" deep. Her little necklace is of inlaid red coral, variscite and malachite. Her hair is incised and set in traditional whorls. She has inlaid jet eyes, a tiny coral mouth and teensy turquoise buttons on her detailed mocasines. Ray used the natural gray color of the antler to color her hair and shawl while he burnished the soles of her mocasines. A precious fetish by Ray.
