Spirit Horses also known as Lac La Croix Indian ponies are small Indigenous equines that used to live alongside First Nations throughout the Boreal forests of Canada and the United States. Ojibwe, Métis, Anishinaabe and other Indigenous Peoples know these special ancient horses were living on the continent before the Spanish brought theirs over. Herds of wild horses on the continent are well-documented too. These amazing creatures are built for forest terrain with hairy ears, thick fur and an extra nose flap. Many even have a prehistoric tiger striping on their legs and dorsal stripes on their backs. Indigenous communities are on the forefront of conservation efforts as these important horses are critically endangered. Hayes Leekya's fancy-footed horse is carved from onyx and given eyes from pen shell inlays. Hooves are from turquoise. About 2 5/8" long, 7/8" wide and 1 3/4" tall.
