Turtles make a significant contribution to Mother Earth. One of the many ways is that of seed dispersal. Some plants are dependent on certain species of turtles for cultivation and germination like the native mayapple wildflower. Eastern box turtles are the primary seed dispersers for mayapple as the seeds they consume are more likely to germinate. Nelson Yatsattie's wonderful reptile is carved from a Picasso marble that resembles a wooded pine forest where the mayapple grows. A warm glance comes through turquoise inlaid eyes. About 2 1/2" long, 1 3/4" wide and 3/4" tall.
