Petit Point Crescent Pendant

By Erline James

This offering is sold.
The Moors who ruled Spain for centuries until around 1492, adopted the crescent or naja symbol from previous cultures as an ornament for horse bridles. It was thought to protect the equine and rider from badness or the evil eye. The naja is often seen in Native jewelry perhaps representing protection among other symbolism. The word naja is an anglicized version of the Diné bizaad word najahe which means crescent. Erline James' handmade sterling silver and cheerful turquoise petit point pendant incorporates this ancient design in an exquisite way. Including bale, dimensions are about 1 3/4" long, 7/8" wide and 1/8" deep. Signed by the artist.
