Orthoceras mollusks lived in ancient Ordovician oceans millions of years ago. Their aragonite shells fossilized into a white-like calcite, which now is an attractive contrast to the dark limestone they hardened in. Bernard Laiwakete's wonderful Bear has been carved from a fascinating orthoceras to a dimension of about 2 7/8" long, 3/8" wide and 7/8" tall. A heartline or breath path and eyes are from turquoise inlays.
