Lorandina Sheche's cougar (Mountain-lion, puma or panther) with large turquoise eyes is carved from dolomite secured with a gorgeous serpentine point. Her grandfather was the late Theodore Kucate who was possibly the earliest recognized carver from Zuni. His fetishes had a friendliness to them as do Lorandina's. The Sheche family is well-known for carving old-style fetishes like those found in Frank H. Cushing's 1883 book Zuni Fetishes. About 2 1/2" long, 5/8" wide and 1" tall.
