The Hopi People believe Katsinas bring harmony in nature, beneficial rainfall, good crops, fertility and successful hunting. They are various masked ancestral spirits who come during Hopi religious dances. Hopi Soyal Katsina is also known as Return Katsina and usually arrives in December. Soyal Katsina is an essential part of the Soyal Solstice Ceremony symbolizing the second phase of Creation at the Dawn of Life. Adrian Leon creates amazing katsina dolls like this miniature Hopi Soyal Katsina Doll. Details include chicken feathers, pipe cleaner, cloth and embroidery thread on a carved cottonwood body painted with colorful acrylic paints.
