Mother Earth's most heartwarming sight is an owl family which is what we have right before our eyes. Lionel Sanchez carves after the style of his father-in-law Wilson Romero of Cochiti Pueblo, using found stone and minimal carving to describe the animal in the stone. Here is a guardian Owl carved from tufa, a type of porous volcanic stone. It can be found in areas of ancestral Pueblo land that is now Bandelier National Monument. The small owlets nestled in the breast feathers remind us of the ancient cliff dwellings at Bandelier and the safety the ancestors found there. The striking large raptor with circular drilled eyes is about 10" tall, 4" wide and 3 5/8" deep. The six darling owlets are carved from lovely varieties of found stone.
