By Elise Westika

Animal: Bear, Material: Cottonwood Root
This offering is sold.

Woodcarver Elise Westika is the daughter of artists Cheryl Beyuka and Elvis Westika. When she was a youngster, attempts were made to carve rock but found that carving wood came naturally. She says it's therapeutic to use an exacto knife to take away layers of cottonwood root to create animals like this wonderful knapsack-wearing Bear. A delightful carving repertoire has included astronauts and angels too. Fur texture is achieved with a heated pyrography tool, which burns designs on a surface. Acrylic paints accent the sweet eyes of this cub, while an offering necklace is laced with various stone and shell beads. About 3" tall, 1 3/4" wide and 2" deep. Signed by the artist.
