In Zuni animal carvings, the heartline or breath path usually begins at the mouth leading to the heart region as seen in Chad Quandelacy's heartfelt howling Coyote (Wolf or Fox) carved from bumblebee jasper. Heartlines go back to the A:Shiwi (Zuni) creation account. We love the alternating slivered sections of inlaid turquoise, coral, malachite, perhaps pen shell and lapis lazuli that colorfully form the heartline feature in this wonderful bushytail with turquoise eyes. Presented on a base of crushed turquoise and jet, dimensions all together are approximately 3 1/4" tall, 1 5/8" wide and 1 5/8" deep.
