From piping hot molten magma from deep inside an ancient volcano, fabulous obsidian is a natural glass formed when the flowing lava rapidly cools. Said to have grounding properties, obsidian has been prized by Indigenous cultures and used in many ways such as the construction of tools and great arrowheads.

This magnificent Bear was carved by Wilson Romero from an obsidian stone he found while walking through the rich volcanic landscape of Cochiti Pueblo. The volcanic glass stone has incredible inclusions that sweep through the carving. The piece has a smooth shape but has areas that retain the natural rough texture of the stone. This earthly bear measures about 4 3/8" long, 1 3/8" wide by 3" tall.
