DH Mavapu is a wonderful potter from Zuni with Hopi ties known for creative potteries that bring a fresh perspective to the traditional medium. He studied with noted Zuni artists Phil Hughte and the late Jennie Laate.
The small Eagle Olla Maiden balances an olla jar on the head. Other details include traditional clothing like an underskirt, manta, sash belt and cape worn by real life Olla Maidens. Every square inch of this original piece is colorfully adorned with mostly natural pigments as well as ceramic paints. About 5 7/8" tall, 5 1/4" wide and 3 7/8" deep, formed from natural clay. Signed by the artist with a corn motif and the word Mu:Shiwi which means Hopi-Zuni.
