Owls are often the first birds that young children can identify and copy the iconic call of. Seen in storybooks and cartoons, the owl is often a wise figure around to offer insight and advice. And while singular or paired owls are often the most common to be seen in the evening trees, a group of owls is rare but not uncommon, although most owl groups are usually comprised of a breeding pair and their young owlets. These groups are called a "parliament", which could have originated in Ancient Greece.
Ruben Najera is from the greater Laate family of Zuni carvers. His brother is artist Esteban Najera. Ruben's latest offering is this perched parliament of Owls elegantly carved from antler and inlaid with eyes of jet. Graceful feather details add lovely texture to this raptor family. This carving is 2" tall, 2" wide, 1 1/4" deep.
