Prolific carver Brian Yatsattie started in 1980 inspired by a family friend who carved. He decided to give it a try by borrowing his jeweler mother's motor and grinding wheel. He was the first to do animal carvings in a family of jewelers. Brian shared that his artistic style is one of a kind, allowing the stone to show its natural beauty. He's always on the hunt for interesting materials too, saying he was the first to use Fordite, surfite, bowlerite and funkite, introducing these upcycled materials to fellow Zuni carvers. Brian's latest offering is a magnificent Medicine-Bear masterfully sculpted from Pinolite gathered by a friend on a Canadian island. Expressive eyes are from jet inlaid to this approximately 3 3/4" long, 7/8" wide and 2 5/8" tall gorgeous bear.
