Zuni Pueblo Maiden

Derrick Kaamasee's uncle is renowned carver Maxx Laate. Derrick started carving in the late 1980s and comes from the greater Laate family of Zuni fetish artists. He's taught many others the art of fetish carving, including Destry Siutza. Derrick brought by a wonderful found stone carving of a Zuni Maiden. An etched shawl is inlaid with turquoise as is a necklace and her confident eyes. A red coral inlay serves as a powerful voice. Hand are gathered and in a slightly leaning stance, she dances. Approximately 3 1/4" tall, 1 3/4" wide and 1/2" deep.
