The Indigenous Hopewell People lived during the Middle Woodland Period in Illinois between about 200 BC and 500 AD. They respected the deceased by burying them in huge sacred mounds arranged in groups. One mound burial was that of a child with a bobcat that was lovingly placed with its paws together. Remains showed no signs of sacrifice or neglect. It was a beloved and cared for member of the family. Ancient cultures respected wildcats as relatives. Bobcats are a keystone species providing an important service by keeping other animal populations in check. Troy Sice's wonderful Bobcat has been masterfully carved from burnished antler and given amazing eyes from green turquoise. Best of all it holds a pink angel skin coral heart offering between plump paws. Approximately 1 3/4" tall, 3/4" wide and 3/4" deep.
