Strawberry Moon Bushytail

By Rosella & Loubert Soseeah

Animal: Bushytail, Material: Watermelon Serpentine
This offering is sold.

Rosella and Loubert Soseeah's sweet-spirited bushytail (Coyote, Fox, or Wolf) has been carved from a watermelon serpentine whose hues call to mind June's Strawberry Moon. To this day, Indigenous cultures like the Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota Nations call June's full moon the Strawberry Moon to mark the season when wild berries are ready for harvesting. The Haida word Berries Ripen Moon reflects this too. The moon can actually appear reddish-orange when it is close to the horizon because the light rays pass through the densest layers of the atmosphere. Dimensions of this turquoise-eyed wild canine are about 3" long, 5/8" wide and 7/8" tall.
