Standing Black Bear

By Wilson Romero, Cochiti-Dine

Animal: Bear, Material: Found Stone
This offering is sold.
The black Bear was designated as New Mexico's official state animal in 1963. In fact, a group of Zuni and other pueblo firefighters found and rescued an injured bear cub after a massive 1950's forest fire in the Lincoln National forest near Capitan, NM. This little cub went on to be adopted as Smokey Bear, a living symbol of fire prevention. We're adoring Wilson Romero's found stone standing bear that calls to mind the legendary and sweet bear. About 3 1/4" tall, 2" wide and 1 1/2" deep.
