In Zuni Pueblo, the three stages of Woman are recognized as Maiden, Mother and Grandmother. These traditional phases represent feminine strength, power of creation, nurturing and wisdom. Kevin Chapman's turquoise fetish honors another aspect of woman, Sisterhood. Three sister Corn-maidens are wrapped in their shawls and their bodies show incised corn kernels. Red coral adorns them and facial features are from jet. A wheat stalk and more corn are seen on the reverse side of this approximately 2" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 1" deep wonderful piece.
