Shark Protector

By Calvert Bowannie

Animal: Shark, Material: Picasso Marble
This offering is sold.

Indigenous Hawaiians believe the first man on Earth was the result of a union between a woman and a shark god named Kamohoaliʻi who is the oldest and highest-ranking brother of the volcano goddess Pele. Sharks are family members who represent guidance or aumakua, spiritual beings that can take the form of objects or animals. Calvert Bowannie's shark has been beautifully carved from Picasso marble and inlaid with turquoise eyes. A lovely variation in the marble resembles a natural heartline or breath path. About 3" long, 1 3/4" wide and 1" tall.
