Water birds like cranes are associated with longevity, good fortune, happiness and good things to come. The sandhill crane is among the oldest species of bird, with fossils dating back at least two million years. Harsh squawks come from greater sandhill cranes, a bird found in places like New Mexico's Rio Grande valley. Bryston Bowannie's wonderful picture jasper sandhill crane with turquoise eyes is about 2 1/2" tall, 1" wide and 1" deep.
