"Salako" Shalako Katsina

By Spencer Nutima, Hopi

Animal: Shalako Katsina Doll, Material: Cottonwood
This offering is sold.
An important religious katsina ceremony takes place once a year at Zuni Pueblo in which Shalako makes an appearance. A beloved messenger from the Rain Gods, Shalako stands at an incredible 10 feet tall.
Spencer Nutima's (d) katsina carvings are amazing. This one is exquisitely detailed and stands about 11 1/2" tall and is 5 1/2" wide including natural curvature. It's flat backed to facilitate a wall-hanging. All hand-painted with natural pigments and acrylic paints on cottonwood root. Signed by the artist. Extra shipping charges may apply.
