Sandra Quandelacy's splendid and reversible Butterfly
maiden pendant necklace provides an example of transformation in the natural world, one that we can apply in our lives, as a butterfly must go through various stages in order to become. We see a two-sided butterfly maiden pendant carved of a lovely orange-red specimen of spiny oyster shell. Sandra incised nice wing detail on either side, and embellished both with colorful tidbits of lapis, red coral, sugilite and gold lip shell. One of the butterfly maiden's faces is overlaid with shell. They're strung on a single strand of scrumptious turquoise, heishe, garnet, amber, coral, Mojave green turquoise, goldstone and yellow calcite beads. Center butterfly maiden pendant portion is about 2 1/4" long including bale fixture and is 2 5/8" in wingspan, slightly convex. Overall necklace length is about 26" long.
