Vickie Quandelacy's reversible black lip shell carving depicts a Corn-maiden
and Grandmother. Corn maiden wears a carved pen shell, turquoise and red coral feather overlay, plus she's incised with Dragonfly
companions and star elements. The reverse side shows Grandmother who holds a water carrying jar called an 'olla'. It's filled with crushed turquoise to indicate water. She wears an inlaid turquoise and lapis necklace. This carving is inlaid with colorful bits of red coral, turquoise and lapis. The facial features are incised and darkened with jet paste. Including sandstone base with crushed turquoise, this gorgeous carving is about 4 3/4" tall, 3" wide and 1" deep.
