Sgraffito is a decorative art form where a surface layer is cut or etched away to expose a different colored ground. Vince Chavez utilized this age-old technique of ornamentation to create a furry mane, face and tail tip on his powerful
Bison. The Zuni travertine specimen still retains some of this gorgeous sun-kissed tawny hues. A tail is swatting in mid-flick creating a nice sense of movement. Eyes are spirited, inlaid with lovely Zuni azurite. About 3 5/8" long, 1 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" tall.
