Reactive Reptile

By Alan Lewis

Animal: Snake, Material: Alabaster
This offering is sold.

Snakes are solitary, sensitive and camouflaging hunters who consume pests that damage crops. As both predator and prey, these important reptiles provide a necessary balance to a healthy environment. Snakes react to vibrations and temperature changes around them. Wild reptile mothers protect and warm their snakelets weeks after hatching.

Regularly shedding old skin, snakes symbolize the need to discard negative ways to transform ourselves for the better. They teach us to be aware of our surroundings while being good observers of ourselves and others. Snakes have a lightning association in Zuni Pueblo tradition.

We're in for a treat with Alan Lewis' polished alabaster Snake because he usually works in wood creating animal and corn maidens. Turquoise eyes are inlaid while a gold lip shell forked tongue smells the air. A fine rattler is incised. About 5 1/2" long, 3 1/4" wide and 2" tall.
