Artist Travis Nieto comes from the greater Natewa, Dallas Quam (d) and Panteah family of Zuni artists. His brother Frank Nieto is also an accomplished fetish carver. For such a small work at approximately 2" long, 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" tall, Travis managed to bring forth several protective animals such as Eagle, Bear, Mountain-lion and Bobcat in rich Picasso marble. As guardians of the pueblo, they emerge watchful through turquoise eyes. The ancient village is inlaid with turquoise pieces representing wood beams called vigas. About 2" long, 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" tall.
