Old-Style Eagle Family

By Lorandina Sheche

This offering is sold.

In 1880-81 anthropologist Frank H. Cushing submitted a report to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution on Zuni Pueblo fetishes complete with illustrations. Today the Sheche family carves fetishes based on those drawings. Lorandina Sheche created an Eagle (or Hawk) family from onyx, marble and zebra stone marble. Alert eyes are from red coral inlays. Each raptor has an incised 'X' on its back to represent wings. All together, they measure about 2 3/4" long, 1 1/4" wide and 1" tall. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this eagle fetish will go to the Zuni Eagle Sanctuary.
