Badgers are found in New Mexico's majestic mountain meadows, vast grasslands and broad deserts. They are considered a healing animal by the Zunis as they are believed to help medicine men dig roots needed for healing. Claudia Peina's pen shell-eyed badger is close to the earth, low down measuring about 2 1/4" long, 1 1/2" wide and 5/8" tall. She creatively worked the antler by creating cascading fur on the sides, while the cross-hatched portion along the top represents a badger's classic markings beautifully.
