Andrew Quam is from the greater Johnny Quam (d), Andrew Emerson Quam (d) and Bossie Quam (d) family of wonderful Zuni artists. Andrew's mother was Rosalia Quam (d) who learned the art from her step-father George Cheechee Haloo (d). She was famous for stringing bird fetishes and also for her delightful horse, frog and owl carvings. Rosalia and her husband Andrew Emerson Quam taught their children, including Andrew, the honored art. Many amazing artists have come from this family.
Andrew is well-known for his turtle and frog fetishes. Combining layers of gorgeous mother-of-pearl, green turquoise and abalone, this etched-carapace Turtle is inlaid with colorful turquoise and apple coral pieces. Incised claws are darkened with jet paste and eyes are of apple coral. About 1 3/8" long, 1" wide and 3/8" tall.
