Magpies, a member of the corvid family along with Ravens, are considered one of the most intelligent animals in the world. They are known to collect "pretty" things, a concept made famous by Rossini's opera "La Gazza Larta" (The Thieving Magpie). You can't get more dramatic than that! Calvert carved this magpie with a dramatically long tail and gave it a small red treasure. With inlaid mother of pearl shell feathers on its wings and eyes of inlaid turquoise this smart bird is about 1 1/8" tall and 3 1/4" long including that fabulous tail.
