By Bryston Bowannie

This offering is sold.

The red-billed oxpecker bird is often found eating bugs and insects from the backs of big animals like giraffes, the critically endangered rhinoceros, and hippos. These feathered friends actually alert their host to advancing human poachers long before the large mammal would realize it on their own. Hippopotamus are short-sighted but thanks to the feathered friends that hitch a ride on their backs, warning calls are sounded alerting them of potential danger. What a great symbiotic relationship. Bryston Bowannie's picture jasper hippo has turquoise eyes. The little turquoise oxpecker has jet inlaid eyes. Together they measure approximately 2 3/4" long, 1 1/8"wide and 2 1/8" tall.
