Nicknamed the "thumbprint" bear because your fingers can easily fit into the indentations carved on either side, is Vernon Lunasee and Prudencia Quam's dreamy Bear (or Medicine-bear). Grey variations draw you in, making this piece of marble inspirational. Confident turquoise inlaid eyes complete this approximate 3 1/8" long, 2 1/4" tall and 7/8" wide carving.
Vernon Lunasee descends from the greater Lunasee, Tsethlikai and Chavez family of Zuni artists. The Lunasee and Tsethlikai families are related to the Quandelacy's. Vernon and his brother Ronnie Lunasee started carving in the mid-1980's. Their cousin is carver Fabian Tsethlikai. Prudencia Quam, Vernon's wife, influenced him in the art of fetish carving.
