In-Flight Eagle Of East Indian Steer Horn

By Keli'i Eli, Zuni-Hawaiian

This offering is sold.

Keli'i Eli's latest offering is this spectacular Eagle carved from East Indian steer horn. Keli'i used the well-known Italian technique of "sgraffito" for feather detail on the raptor's wings and body. The sgraffito detail was made by scratching through the horn's surface to reveal the lower contrasting layer. The eagle holds its wings close to its body in preparation for another stroke. The raptor's head and beak are beautifully carved and polished, and provide the perfect contrast for its eyes of inlaid turquoise. With an offering bundle of a mother-of-pearl point plus turquoise and red branch coral, this one-of-kind carving measures about 14 1/4" long, 2 1/4" tall.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this eagle fetish will go to the Zuni Eagle Sanctuary. Please see our resources page for more information on the sanctuary.
