Honor The Buffalo

By Lynn Quam

Animal: Bison, Material: Picasso Marble
This offering is sold.
A noble Bison is here to share his abundance. Bison (or buffalo) are especially important to the Plains Indigenous tribes whose main sustenance once depended on the vast herds. The entire bison body was used, nothing was wasted. Prayers of appreciation were offered for the abundance they provided. Pueblo cultures also revere buffalo. In Zuni Pueblo, a Buffalo Katsina comes with a Buffalo Maiden during ceremonial dances. Carved from a rich and beautiful Picasso marble, Lynn Quam's smooth bovine has turquoise eyes and powerful horns. About 3 1/4" long, 7/8" wide and 2" tall.
