A captivating travertine
Turtle's (or tortoise's) carapace has been overlaid with a heaven and earth composition. Jayne Quam set this mosaic in place with a delicious array of stones and shells such as crushed azurite, crushed jet, shell, fish rock serpentine, spiny oyster shell, azurite, serpentine, jet, Mojave green turquoise and perhaps violite. Part of the arrangement looks like a celestial scene with shooting stars, a planet and a crescent moon, while the other section resembles abstracted mountains or other earthy landscapes. Turquoise inlaid eyes convey a sweet determinedness. About 2 1/2" long, 2" wide and 5/8" tall.
