This offering is sold.
Gilbert Lonjose's lovely Corn Maiden is carved from alabaster. Facial features are etched and filled with jet paste while her shawl has colorful turquoise inlays. Hair is styled in traditional whorls. Individual corn kernels are cleanly incised. In Zuni Pueblo tradition, Corn Maidens saved the People from famine by nourishing them with sacred corn kernels from their bodies. In a slightly leaning stance, measurements are about 2" tall, 1 1/4" wide and 7/8" deep.
