The difference between the Indigenous view of bears and that of mainstream society is that bears are respected as family, sentient beings who have a range of emotions congruent with those of humans. Emerging from a forest home, an elder bear has mighty clawed paws and wisdom-filled turquoise eyes. He will teach you if you will listen. Bears admonish us to respect nature, ourselves and others.
