Animal: Corn Maiden, Material: Apatite
This offering is sold.

Clarity and confidence are qualities the mineral apatite is said to inspire. Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez's Corn Maiden has been carved from this engaging stone. Corn kernels and an assured overlaid face is from mother-of-pearl, etched and darkened with jet paste. Lovely purple cabochons adorn her warm shawl. She measures about 1 3/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 1" deep.

Kateri's mother was Georgia Quandelacy (d). Grandmother Ellen Quandelacy (d) taught all her children the art, as she was taught by her father Johnny Quam (d). This family's artistry has helped establish standards of workmanship in fetish carving. Kateri's passing her skills to daughter Jada Gonzales.
