Derrick Kaamasee's Corn-maiden
is carved from an incredible specimen of dolomite exhibiting earth toned colors seen in a Zuni sunset. Her body is etched with Corn
that's inlaid with turquoise. Traditionally styled whorls of hair and turquoise inlaid eyes plus a red coral mouth are lovely features of this approximate 4" tall, 2" wide and 2 1/2" deep fetish. Zuni Pueblo tradition teaches that during the old-days corn maidens saved the Zunis from famine and drought by nourishing them with sacred corn kernels from their bodies.
